Hotels and Other Accommodations

The ADA law allows guests with service animals to have equal room reservation opportunities as other guests.

  • Hotels cannot limit guests with service animals to “pet-friendly” rooms.
  • Hotels are not permitted to charge guests for cleaning the hair or dander shed by a service animal.
  • If a guest’s service animal causes damages to a guest room, a hotel is permitted to charge the same fee for damages as charged to other guests.

For more information, see the ADA FAQ questions 11 & 12.

  • It is not required, but consider calling ahead to alert your hotel or other accommodation that you will be coming with a service animal.
  • You may want to request things like a ground floor room or close to an exit or elevator.
  • Don’t forget to bring enough supplies for your trip.
  • Some hotels allow you to ship things like food directly to their address so it will be there when you arrive.
